About Coach Lamanna

Ben Lamanna was named the head coach of the Bowdoin women's tennis team in the summer of 2019.In his 5 years at Bowdoin, the team has a best ITA ranking of #13 in Division III and has helped develop 1 All-American doubles team and numerous All-NESCAC 1st and 2nd team selections.A 2002 graduate of Bates College, Lamanna had been the head men's and women's tennis coach at Brandeis for the last 14 seasons."Ben has been incredibly successful as both a men's and women's tennis head coach in Division III while investing equally in the overall student experience on campus," said Ashmead White Director of Athletics Tim Ryan. I'm motivated to build a championship future for Bowdoin Women's Tennis."Under Lamanna's direction, Brandeis climbed in the national rankings over the last decade. In his final year, both Brandeis teams finished with the best teams in program history. The women's team finished #10 in D3 and the men's team finished #8.
As head coach of the women's program at Brandeis, he led the Judges to their first national ranking in program history in 2012 (#22) and have been nationally ranked each year since. Lamanna developed the first All-Americans in Brandeis women's tennis history and, in 2019, he helped the team to its highest-ever ranking, #10 in the final Division III poll with a run to the Sweet 16 of the team's first-ever NCAA Tournament.
He guided the Brandeis men's team back into the national rankings for the first time in over 20 years in 2010, when he was named University Athletic Association Men's Tennis Coach of the Year. The team has finished with a national ranking six times since, with the best finish coming this past spring in 2018-19, when the Judges finished #8 in Division and Lamanna was named the Wilson/ITA National Division III Coach of the Year in addition to his second UAA Coach of the Year honor and his first ITA Northeast Region Coach of the Year honor.Lamanna is also a leader in the New England Division III tennis scene as aa 2012-2015 NCAA Selection Committee Member, the 2010-2012 Northeast ITA Rankings Chair and 2007-2010 New England Rankings Committee member. Lamanna has also served as a co-tournament director and treasurer for the NEWITT, the longest running Division III Women's tournament in college tennis.As a player at Bates, Lamanna played in every spot from two through six in the singles ladder, compiling an impressive 15-1 record as a junior. The Bobcats made three NCAA tournament appearances in his career and, as a senior in 2002, Lamanna earned the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Clarence Chaffee Award for demonstrating leadership on and off the court.Lamanna is a native of Barrington, R.I. He is a 1998 graduate of Barrington High School, where Lamanna's teams won four straight Rhode Island team championships, and was the Rhode Island State Doubles Champ in 1994. Lamanna lives in Portland, ME with his wife, Lauren, and two children, Gus and Rose.

The women's prospect camp is intended for high school age young women who are interested in:
- Learning about a top tier college tennis team, the recruitment process at Bowdoin College in the NESCAC conference.
- Developing skills to build their singles and doubles game to win at the college level.
- Experiencing a college tennis atmosphere and learning how great teams work.
- On the agenda is a campus tour, eating at the #1 ranked college dining hall, a video session, college drills, and a team dual match on day 2.
- The camps will be intimate - capped at 12 players for our summer camp and will be a fun team environment with college style practices and match-play.
- This will be a day camp. There are plenty of hotel options in Brunswick, Maine.
Who is the camp for?
The camp is limited to girls entering 9th through 12th grade. The majority of the camp is made up of highly ranked juniors with a strong academic record.
If I attend camp, will I be considered to attend Bowdoin?
Yes, all players will be evaluated for their ability and potential. This camp is intended to build relationships in order to bring quality student-athletes into the Bowdoin community.
Why should I attend camp?
This is a great opportunity to experience an elite collegiate level of training with other highly-ranked juniors and others from around the country. You will learn about the college recruiting process and have the forum to ask questions.
How much individual attention will I receive during camp?
The women's prospect camp @ Bowdoin is small in number, with a maximum of 12 players in the summer sessions and 8 players in the winter session. Coach Lamanna and staff will get to know each player on and off the court. You will also have the opportunity to play with current college players and spend time with them off the court.

Bowdoin Student-Athlete

At every Women's Prospect Camp there will be student-athletes from the Bowdoin Women's Tennis Team on the coaching staff . These players will fill in to play in tennis sessions, engage campers in discussions about being a student-athlete, provide campus tours, and be in charge of facilitating a fun learning environment! For the winter camp, the whole team will be have a prominent role in coaching the camp.


Joe Shaw

Certified Athletic Trainer

The camp is staffed with a Bowdoin Athletic Trainer.
Joe Shaw lives in Falmouth, ME and he joined the Bowdoin athletic training staff in the winter of 2012.
Shaw graduated from University of Maine-Orono with a degree in Exercise Science & Sports Medicine in 2010.
Most recently, he was an Athletic Trainer with the Baltimore Orioles for 2 seasons.

FACILITIES

The Bowdoin Tennis can boast some of the best facilities in New England, offering a plethora of indoor and outdoor options. Bowdoin has hosted numerous NCAA, NESCAC and ITA events at their host sites.
Outside at the Pickard Tennis Courts, Bowdoin has 8 state-of-the-art outdoor hardcourts equipped with Playsight cameras.
We have 4 indoor courts at Farley Field House and access to 6 indoor courts at the Maine Pines Indoor Racquet Center.

BOWDOIN WOMEN'S TENNIS

The Bowdoin College women's tennis team is currently ranked #10 in Division III.
Bowdoin has numerous All-American selections in singles and doubles.
Bowdoin has been honored as All-Academic Teams and had numerous players collect ITA Scholar Athlete recognition.
